Specialist osteopathy for post pregnancy

New mothers can experience sore, tired muscles and pelvic pain following labour and giving birth. After all, in nine months a pregnant ladies body has undergone immense change and labour itself puts a great deal of stress and strain on the body.

The amount of physical and hormonal changes leaves the body playing catch up. The hormone relaxin remains in a mother’s postnatal body, especially whilst breastfeeding, meaning joints joints, ligaments and muscles are loose and stretchy, making them susceptible to injury.

A postnatal osteopathy check after your baby arrives can help you recover from the birth with treatment gently easing these sore and tired muscles, re-balancing the pelvis and helping strengthen your pelvic floor.

Frequent postnatal issues:

Taking a little time to focus on yourself as a mother can be really beneficial, especially as your body is put under different stresses and strains due to the increased physical workload new-mums experience whilst still recuperating and adapting to the lack of sleep.

You can put your body in awkward positions to lift and put down your baby, uncomfortable positions when sitting for long periods to feed or soothe your baby, and items like car seats and some changing bags can be cumbersome to carry and juggle whilst carrying your baby.

Postnatal osteopathy helps new mums by treating and minimising aches and pains so they can embrace motherhood without any physical limitations. We guide your postnatal body to regain strength and flexibility whilst offering practical day to day advice on avoiding relapse and pain.

Frequent postnatal aches & pains from:

Holding the baby in the feeding position for long periods of time

Breastfeeding for long periods of time in the same position

Breastfeeding in location for privacy rather than comfort

General multitasking whilst carrying a baby

Lifting and carrying car seats

Lifting pram’s, buggies and travel cots

Pushing prams up steep hills

Bending to lower your little one into a cot with sides

β€œI had so much advice but really found hearing the tips and advice in relation to my own body and its needs super helpful. It cut through the noise. Thank you!”
