Patient Journey
What to expect from your osteopathy appointment.
Whilst no patient is the same we are able to provide a general idea on your patient journey. Patients find this helpful to visualise appointments and how we approach initial appointments, diagnosis and future appointments.
In our experience we see patients regularly with similar issues. So, whilst every patient is different and can react quicker or slower to treatment, we have the knowledge and experience to advise how many appointments you will need over a particular period of time.
We rarely see patients once, this is for duty of care in assessing how patients react to treatment and whether additional advice or help is required.
Booking
You can make an appointment via our online booking system or by contacting the clinic directly - you do not need a GP or hospital referral. We will send a confirmation email with some online forms to be completed and advice on payment.
Preparation
It helps having information like medication, blood tests etc sent to us before your appointment. We will ask you to remove items of clothing for our osteopaths accurately assess and effectively treat, so wear something comfortable.
Arrival
Please arrive with time to spare. Our clinics are busy and if you are late we may need to rearrange or only be able to provide a shorter treatment. If you arrive early we have a lovely, relaxing waiting room whilst you wait for your osteopath to call you in.
Consultation
This is where your osteopath will ask questions to thoroughly understand your problem. They will take into consideration past injuries, illnesses and your current health. All questions are designed to get to the root cause of your issue.
Assessment
Once clothing is removed osteopath will assess your body to accurately diagnose the cause of your issue, observing restriction of movement, pain points and they may perform neurological examinations and reflex testing.
Diagnosis
Your osteopath will diagnose your issue or provide a βrolling diagnosisβ when the cause isnβt obvious, i.e. if youβre in acute pain. Your osteopath will determine if treatment is advised to help you and uncover the root cause of your issue.
Treatment
Once they have an initial diagnosis, and it is safe to do so, your osteopath will spend the rest of your appointment providing treatment which involves manual techniques like massage, stretching, joint articulation or manipulation.
Treatment Plan
Following your detailed consultation, the osteopathβs advised after-care and treatment plan is personalised to you and your health. Weβll see you again to assess your reaction to treatment and weβll review your progress at every appointment.
